It was announced at a pre-Oscars party this weekend that Jay Z will be one of the many producing help to bring Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony winning musical In the Heights to the big screen.

Harvey Weinstein will also be producing the movie musical along with Scott Sanders. During the pre-Oscars party, Cynthia Erin, Christopher Jackson, and more performed tunes from In the Heights, Lin-Manuel’s first big break on Broadway.

This isn’t the first time Jay Z has produced a theatre piece. His most recent production was Broadway’s Fela!.

In the Heights was first developed when Lin-Manuel was a student at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, before it went to Off-Broadway in 2007, then finally to Broadway where it ran 1,184 performances, winning Best Musical in 2008.

The show is about Dominican bodega owner who guides the audience through a couple days in the life of his friends, family, and girlfriends in Washington Heights. Given that both Lin-Manuel and Jay Z are taking Hollywood by storm, In the Heights: the Movie is sure to be just as epic as the stage version.
