The infamous Access Hollywood tape where Donald Trump spoke about grabbing women “by the p*ssy” got Billy Bush fired from the Today show.

According to multiple sources at Page Six, it is now known who leaked the tape.

“The tape was leaked by the NBC News division, by somebody at the Today show,” one source said. “NBC News knew for a while about the existence of the tape. Billy himself had told them about it. People in the news division became frustrated that Access Hollywood was taking too long to air it and decided it had to come out.”

Meanwhile, the people at Access were already working on a condensed, or rather sanitized, version of the tape, hoping to filter out Trump’s grotesque comments. But the full tape ended up getting leaked to the Washington Post.

“The leaked tape served a dual purpose: It helped get Bush out of the way — Matt Lauer didn’t like him and felt he was a liability — and NBC thought it would derail Trump,” the source commented. “But all it did was crush Billy, and, ironically, his own network was behind it.”

Another sourced added, “The leak was not just a political move. Lauer felt threatened.”

Word on the street was that no one liked Billy when he first arrived at Today, giving a “frat boy” impression. And to this day, the leaker at NBC has yet to be disciplined: “There was no investigation, no internal witch hunt by NBC into who leaked the tape. It served their purposes,” said one of Page Six’s sources.

“The leak did not come from Today,” another source added. “It was leaked by somebody on the West Coast who hated Billy Bush and wanted to take him down.”

A different source, however, played down Matt’s involvement saying, “Billy and Matt had a great relationship. Matt had nothing to do with the tape. This story is a complete fantasy, patently false.”
