Bow Down! Julie Andrews Speaks on Her Feelings About ‘Mary Poppins’ Remake

There’s no replacing Julie Andrews, even Emily Blunt knows that!

Emily, of course, will be playing “Mary Poppins” in Disney’s remake of the classic film starring Dame Julie Andrews as the lead. And according to the icon, she’s totally fine with it!

“Disney had so many of the Mary Poppins books in their stockpile, in the basement, in the vault. So they thought, ‘Why don’t we also do a second musical using all of that material?'” she said ABC’s Peter Travers. “It’s not a re-creation of the original film. It’s a brand new film.” She also said the movie is set in a different era and time.

“I think she’ll be practically perfect,” she said.

Speaking of remakes, Julie was also asked how she’d feel if they remade another iconic role of hers in the Sound of Music: “It’s not so bad if they do,” she replied. “Sound of Music was iconic, and I’m thrilled it stood up to the test of time, but it was something like 50 years ago. So I think it’s about time somebody had a crack at it again.”.
