‘A Dog’s Purpose’ Investigation Found no Animal Cruelty on Set

As Hollywood Holler previously reported, after a video surfaced hinting of animal cruelty on the set of A Dog’s Purpose, activists and audiences were not happy.

An American Humane investigation began to uncover more details, and now they’re saying they found the original video to be “deliberately edited for the purpose of misleading the public,” and in reality no animal cruelty occurred on set.

Hmmm?

According to their statement, the clip of the German shepherd being forced into fast water ended after “the dog showed signs of stress.” They said that particular dog actually loved water, and had been professionally trained for weeks prior to shooting.

That being said, American Humane also said it could have been approached differently, that “the handling of the dog in the first scene in the video should have bee gentler and signs of stress recognized earlier,” but after the water scene, the dog wagged its tail and wanted to go back in the water.

At the end of the day, the group says the video was purposely edited to spark outrage. Still, PETA isn’t buying it.

“The fact that the dog did not get injured or die is not at issue, but questions remain,” Lisa Lange, senior vice president at PETA, said in a statement. “In the making of a film, no animal should be frightened at all. It is a film.”
