People magazine and Dunkin’ Donuts teamed up to chat with some of our favorite stars on how they get ready for red carpet season, and their techniques for looking fierce 24/7.

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland knows how to rock a carpet. Here are 5 rituals People discovered are her must-dos:

1. Her car ride to the show is her get-in-the-zone time.

All you need to do is check on Hyland’s Insta to see how hectic the hours leading up to a red carpet are, but as soon as that limo door shuts, the vibe changes. “It’s a whirlwind beforehand because there’s so much chaos: makeup, dressing, dogs, alarm systems,” Hyland says. “But once I’m in the car, it’s so relaxing. I just listen to music or catch up on emails.”

2. She never forgets deodorant.

Like, never ever. “I always put it on,” she tells PEOPLE. “Don’t wanna smell in front of famous people.” Can’t argue with that logic.

3. Two things keep her motivated during a crazy awards season.

Hyland has said before that it takes a village, citing her manicurist, her makeup artist, her hairstylist, her stylist and her stylist’s assistant, to get through the craziness that is this time of year. But it’s not just for their skills when it comes to nails, hair, makeup and gowns. In fact, the actress calls them the “best people in the world” and told PEOPLE they’re a big part of what psychs her up for an event and gets her ready mentally. So, what else besides her glam squad keeps her motivated? “My love for the craft,” Hyland said without hesitation. “Acting has always been my biggest passion and always will be.” She added that one of the keys to making it in this business is simple: “Remember where you came from.”

4. Her pre-show motto might as well be “but first, coffee.”

“I can’t go without coffee before an awards show,” Hyland shares. “It’s a really long day into night, so I have to start my day right with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.” Actually, “but first, coffee” might as well be her post-show motto, too. Hyland spent the day after the awards refueling with a large cup of her go-to beverage.

5. She’s not afraid to make a last-minute decision.

Hyland caught PEOPLE style editors’ attention with her gorgeous navy-and-black look. We wouldn’t blame you for thinking that it was months or weeks in the making. But actually, it came together in about 72 hours. “I picked a dress out on Thursday!” Hyland revealed, adding, “that’s pretty fast turnaround.”
