Ellen Pompeo received the wrath of Twitter on yesterday when she shared a tweet responding to A&E’s Generation KKK show, a new project about the modern day Klu Klux Klan. In her tweet, she commended the network for changing the show’s name to Escaping KKK (which happened after much protest) and used black clapping emojis as well as a black thumbs-up emoji.

Cue the trolls: While some people thanked her, others criticized her and accused her of sensationalizing the issue.

“What’s crazy is how angry everyone is,” she wrote. This is all about emojis people. IT was a really positive thing A&E did, now that’s not the focus. My fault for responding.”
