Why is #safetypin trending on Twitter?

Well, it has become a symbol of support to refugees since the Brexit vote to leave the European Union in June.

In the wake of the U.S. election, many groups, including African Americans, Muslims, and women, are feeling scared and uneasy. So, by fastening a safety pin to their clothing, it simply shows they are in solidarity with anyone who might be afraid.
