Donald Trump is apparently threatening to defund California schools if they choose to incorporate the New York Times‘ controversial 1619 Project into their curriculum, according to Deadline.

Trump had tweeted against the California school system’s supposed move, writing that the Department of Education is looking into the matter.

Of course, the 1619 Project by New York Times Magazine won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary, and claims that the American Revolution was fought in order to preserve slavery.

The story also wrote that 1619 is the accurate date for America’s founding, as that is when slaves were brought to the colonies.

Republican senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas is also against the notion, claiming that the 1619 Project is “revisionist account of history that denies the noble principles of freedom and equality on which our nation was founded.”

Tom now has a bill pending that would prohibit schools from teaching the 1619 Project.

This is quite something. Shouldn’t kids be able to learn America’s true history? Hopefully the education department will come to its senses.
