In a sweet video for Instagram, Rick Cosnett — the actor best known for playing Eddie Thawne in The Flash as well as playing Wes Maxfield in The Vampire Diaries, and Elias Harper in Quantico — came out as gay.

In the short video, he said simply: “I am gay. And I just wanted everyone to know.”

“I’ve made a promise to myself to live my truth every day,” he continued. “And sometimes that is a really hard thing to do when you have all these subconscious things you don’t even know about from childhood and society and just life. I am sure most of you probably knew anyway. I also have a stye in my eye which really adds to the whole drama of the whole thing.”
