There’s a Reason Why Jane Fonda Wore a Recycled Gown to the Oscars

Jane Fonda’s hair basically broke the Internet last night.

The legendary actress debuted a gray pixie at the Oscars while presenting Best Film. She took the stage in a crimson beaded Elie Saab gown she wore to Cannes in 2014.

Of course, she previously declared that the dress was “the last article of clothing I will ever buy” as part of her ongoing climate change protests.

“This is the front line of the climate crisis here in California,” Jane said at a climate change protest last week in California. “And literally what happens here, can impact the rest of the country and the rest of the world.”

“You see this coat?” she continued. “I needed something red and I went out and found this coat on sale. This is the last article of clothing that I will ever buy. When I talk to people and say, ‘We don’t really need to keep shopping. We shouldn’t look to shopping for our identity. We don’t need more stuff,’ I have to walk the talk. So I’m not buying any more clothes.”

She also wasn’t the only actor who addressed issues of sustainability and eco-consciousness through fashion. Kaitlyn Dever opted for eco-friendly fabrics, Margot Robbie wore vintage, and Elizabeth Banks wore a gown she previously showcased in 2004.

Well… clearly Jane is someone who practices what she preaches. That’s why we love her.
