Aaron Rodgers’s Family is Saddened by His Comments on Religion

For those who aren’t terribly into sports (we see you!), let’s remind you what the hell happened to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week.

During a conversation with girlfriend Danica Patrick on her Pretty Intense podcast, Aaron said that he had trouble connecting with his religious community as a child.

“Most people that I knew, church was just… you just had to go,” he said.

Unfortunately, his estranged family was not happy about the comments.

“They were dismayed,” an insider told People magazine. “The family is very dedicated to their Christian faith. To them, his comments are basically a slap in the face to the fundamentals of who they are. It’s basically him turning his back on everything they have taught him.”

Just to refresh your memory, the Super Bowl champ has been estranged from his family – including his brother, NFL and Bachelorette star Jordan Rodgers – for several years. He has not spoken publicly about the reasons why, but the insider told People that religion is a part of it.

“The feeling is that Aaron has really turned his back on them,” said the insider. “There’s clearly a lot more to it, but that’s how he is perceived by his family.”

“His comments are very hurtful to the family,” continued the insider, who added that the family “still loves Aaron very much,” but disagrees with him about fundamental things.

“They have these times where things start to thaw out, but then something like this happens, and then it’s back to square one. It’s sad.”

Oh man. Well personally, we believe family is family is family. We hope they’ll be able to resolve their differences in the near future.
