Brad Pitt got real deep in a recent New York Times interview, sharing that in the 1990s he turned to marijuana at the height of his career to escape the pressures of fame.

The star explained he was “too uncomfortable” following the massive success of his films in the ’90s — particularly his overnight success with Thelma & Louise, Interview with a Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club.

“I spent most of the ’90s hiding out and smoking pot,” he remembered. “I was too uncomfortable with all the attention.”

Still, he eventually “got to a place where I was aware that I was imprisoning myself… Now I go out and live life, and generally people are pretty cool.”

Truth be told, Brad Pitt is one of the most successful movie stars in history. Can you blame him for needing to take a beat amidst all his fame? We certainly don’t.
