NBC Doesn’t Know Why Gabrielle Union Is Starting Drama Over ‘AGT’

As we previously reported, Gabrielle Union has alleged that there were racist undertones during her time at America’s Got Talent, before she was abruptly fired last week (along with Julianne Hough).

This week, both Variety and Vulture published articles describing a “toxic environment” on set, quoting sources who said the actress got notes from staff saying her hair was “too black” and claimed that she had complained to HR.

However, an NBC insider told Page Six that Gabrielle had a “productive conversation” with producers and was surprised that certain matters were brought up again.

“A half-dozen AGT employees were asked [about the ‘too black’ notes] and no one had heard this,” a source told the outlet. “I would honestly be shocked. Ensuring a safe environment is so important to the show. Anytime someone comes forward and has issues, we take things very seriously.”

The source added that Julianne had no problem when her contract was not renewed, but that Gabrielle took immediate action.

Julianne said to Variety, “I had a wonderful time on America’s Got Talent … I am happy to continue my working relationship with NBC.”

Well, there’s a fresh new stink at NBC, and we’re totally intrigued! We’re going to keep following this story.
