Prince Harry Goes After ‘Daily Mail’ Over Meghan Markle Smear Campaign

Kensington Palace

After the Daily Mail published a private letter Meghan Markle wrote to her estranged father after the royal wedding, the Duchess is now suing the outlet.

Now, her husband Prince Harry is speaking out too.

In a statement published yesterday, Prince Harry accused the British tabloid press of waging a “ruthless campaign” against his wife similar to his mother, Princess Diana.

“I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been,” he wrote, declaring he would no longer be a “silent witness to her private suffering.”

“I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person,” he said. “I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”

Meghan has already started legal proceedings against the Daily Mail and Mail‘s parent company, Associated Newspapers, alleging that the tabloid acted unlawfully in February this year when it published the five-page letter where she accused her father of breaking her heart into “a million pieces” by giving interviews to the press.

“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing,” she wrote in August 2018.

Furthermore, the couple’s lawyer made a statement as well, reading: “Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda.”

Meghan and Harry might be royal, but that doesn’t mean they deserve this kind of treatment. Now, we say, it’s time for them to be a royal pain in the ass (to the British media that is)!
