Elton John Is Writing ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Musical

We’re totally dying because a musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada is happening. And Elton John is writing the music!

The latest iteration of the Lauren Weisberger-written novel will be a musical staged in Chicago, running from July 14 until August 17, 2020 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the musical will be directed by Anna D. Shapiro, with music supervision provided by Nadia DiGiallonardo. The book is by Paul Rudnick and — fresh from his hit musical film Rocketman — Elton John will be providing music with lyrics by Shaina Taub.

“It was important to Anna that we premiere in Chicago,” producer Kevin McCollum told the Chicago Tribune.

“Andy, an ambitious young writer in New York City, lands a job at a prestigious magazine,” reads the description on the theater’s website. “Trying to survive under her stylish yet terrifying boss, she finds herself caught between the dreams she thought she wanted, and the cost of what that reality brings.”

“A joyous, funny, and — of course — ultraglamorous story about navigating life’s runway to discover where you’re meant to be, The Devil Wears Prada is a new musical that gives the hit film a fabulously fresh makeover.”
