‘Sex And the City’ Writer Was Censored By Instagram For Talking About Sex

The author behind the Sex and the City novels, Candace Bushnell, revealed that she was banned from promoting her new book on Instagram because it discussed too much sex.

The author’s new book, Is There Still Sex in the City? is out next month. She’d recently posted a video describing the trend of “cubs” (i.w. cute young men who date middle-aged women).

However, when she tried to pay to promote the video as an Instagram ad, she was hit with a notice that it breached the service’s guidelines on explicit content.

Apparently, Candace received a message that read: “This ad isn’t running because it doesn’t follow our advertising policies. We don’t allow ads that promote adult products or services, such as sex toys, sexual enhancement devices, or sexual videos and publications . . . Ads like these are sensitive in nature and typically evoke a negative reaction from viewers.”

Candace later spoke to Page Six about the fiasco.

“I made a spoof video with two young men and I tried to promote it with Instagram,” she said. “Then I get this [notice] . . . I wrote back and said, ‘This is a book written by a 60-year-old woman who takes a funny and poignant look at her own life — not a sex toy!’ ”

She added: “I’ve been censored! Which makes no sense, because think of all the bikini-clad women you see on Instagram every day.”
