You’ll Never Guess What Oprah Did For Gayle King On New Year’s 1993!
Picture it. It was New Year’s Eve in 1993, and the first holiday Gayle King was going to be spending without her children — shortly after her divorce from William Bumpus.
But, because Oprah is the best friend anyone could ask for, she and Stedman surprised Gayle by showing up their door!
“My ex was going to have the kids,” King recalled to People magazine. “I was talking to Oprah on the phone that morning. And I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ And, she told me something.”
Preparing to spend night alone, she was shocked when “four hours later, the doorbell rang and she and Stedman were at the door. She had been planning to come. I didn’t know that.”
“We went grocery shopping — Stedman liked to cook spaghetti,” Gayle added. “We went grocery shopping, got all the stuff to make spaghetti. He cooked. I just kept saying, ‘I can’t believe you guys are here.’ That was something that I’ll never, ever, ever forget.”
