‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators Will Direct The Next ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy

The final episode of Game of Thrones is quickly approaching, but creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss aren’t exactly making it their primary focus at the moment.

That’s because the duo is now working on the next Star Wars movies, with the first set to premiere in 2022!

Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed in a statement to Variety: “We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next movie we release will be theirs. And we’re not saying anything more about that.”

David and D.B. were already expected to write and produce a trilogy for Star Wars, but it was thought that their trilogy would come after the current slate of films that Star Wars:The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is creating.

The studio also revealed this week that the next Star Wars movies will hit theaters in 2022, 2024 and 2026.

When cross referencing these dates alongside Bob’s statement, it’s clear that David and D.B. will be doing the whole trilogy. Congrats guys!
