U.S. Supreme Court Hearing Oral Arguments On LGBTQ Protections

The United States Supreme Court just announced they would hear oral arguments on whether LGBTQ people should be included in workplace discrimination protections that’s currently stated within the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This is a pretty big deal, you all. Today, it is still legal to fire an LGBTQ person in more than 26 states across the nation.

The law, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, forbids employment discrimination based on sex. What the justices now need to decide is whether that language also bars discrimination based on gay and transgender people.

New York City and Chicago courts have already issued decisions ruling that discrimination against gay men and lesbians is a form of sex discrimination.
