Chicago P.D. Is Hoping To Bill Jussie Smollett For The Cost Of Their Investigation

Chicago officials are apparently planning to bill Jussie Smollett for the cost of their investigation into his alleged hate crime hoax.

“The City of Chicago will be sending Mr. Smollett a bill,” Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told reporters. “From a 30,000-foot view, the bill will include the hours, the overtime, the financial costs and the resources that were used.”

“It was an extensive investigation that required a lot of review of cameras. There was technical assistance provided by external agencies, but it’ll likely only include Chicago expenses and not expenses incurred by the FBI and other technical experts we brought in for analysis,” Anthony added.

The City Law Department is currently adding up the costs, and officials couldn’t give an approximate amount as of this afternoon.

Last January, Jussie claimed he was attacked by two men shouting racist and homophobic slurs. Police later determined it was all a hoax, and that the actor paid two brothers to stage an attack.

After weeks of investigating, prosecutors eventually dropped all charges against the actor. As we speak, the FBI is probing the prosecutors office to figure out exactly why they came to that decision — and if any foul play was involved.

It’s the story that keeps on giving!
