Hugh Jackman is set to be Broadway’s next “Professor” Harold Hill in Music Man.

The X-Men star and Tony-winner was teasing fans before the news broke, with a picture of a travel trunk bearing the name tag of the musical’s lead character. And apparently, he’s been preparing to come back to Broadway for a while.

“It’s been so great …to be able to dip in and out [of the stage] in between movies,” he told The Post in December 2018. “It’s a really difficult thing to find 18 months of your life to go on Broadway — but I’m ready. So I’ll be going back.”

Scott Rudin confirmed Hugh’s casting in his revival of The Music Man this week, telling The Hollywood Reporter he was psyched “about the opportunity to present Hugh in what I think is the best role ever written for an actor in all of Broadway musical theater.”

For those who don’t know the musical Harold Hill is a charming traveling con man who poses as small-town marching band leader in Iowa. He secretly scams to steal cash he collects for musical instruments and uniforms — but uptight librarian Marian sees through his scam and plans to expose him.

Apparently, THR reports, Marian will be played by a “leading New York stage star who has been absent from Broadway for the last few years.”

Rumors are swirling that it might be Audra McDonald!
