People Think There’s A #FakeMelania Running Around The White House

People are starting to believe that Melania Trump actually has a body double after a recent appearance with Donald Trump.

A hashtag #FakeMelania emerged in support of a conspiracy theory that the first lady has a body double who sometimes accompanies Donald to events. Though it appears to have first surfaced in 2017, the theory was reignited this week during a visit to Alabama.

The president and Melania visited the state to honor victims of the tornado that killed 23 people.

The First Lady’s office previously denied the claims of a body double, but have since needed to remind Americans.

“Once again, we find ourselves consumed with a ridiculous non-story when we could be talking about the work the first lady is doing on behalf of children, including the opioid crisis that is gripping our nation,” Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump’s director of communications, told reporters.

According to Vox, the speculation began when a man named Joe Vargas posted a tweet that subsequently went viral. In the tweet, he shared a video of the president speaking to reporters and claimed that he was standing next to a body double of Melania.

“This is not Melania. To think they would go this far & try & make us think its her on TV is mind blowing,” he wrote, suggesting that the woman did not resemble the first lady.
