Barbra Streisand Didn’t Want To Introduce ‘A Star Is Born’ at Oscars

You would think Barbra Streisand introducing A Star Is Born as a nominee for Best Picture would be a no-brainer, but apparently the icon had other motivations.

Instead, she chose to introduce Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman

Barbra starred in the 1976 version of A Star Is Born, winning the Oscar for Best Song for “Evergreen,” the same award Lady Gaga won for “Shallow.” But while Babs loved the new version, she had to be picky about what to intro.

“It’s a good movie; it’s gonna be a hit,” she said of A Star Is Born, but she adored BlacKkKlansman, tweeting in May: “I just saw an amazing film — it is so brilliant and so timely!” and then plugged the film again when it was released in August.

A source told Page Six, “Spike and Barbra aren’t great pals, but Barbra loved that movie.” Spike won his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and he and Barbra were later seen huddled together at the Governors Ball after the awards as he downed a glass of Champagne and kissed her hand repeatedly, according to the LA Times.

Barbra later posted a photo of the pair together, both holding his Oscar, with the caption: “I was so happy for Spike Lee last night.”

We think she made the right choice!
