Steve Harvey Speaks On His Heated Argument with Mo’Nique

Last week, Steve Harvey and Mo’Nique got in a heated discussion on his show speaking about rumors that she’s difficult, her Netflix boycott, and payment inequality for women of color.

The dialogue became tense very quickly, and now Steve is reflecting on his woulda-coulda-shoulda’s.

“I’ve got to slow down when I’m talking,” he told People. “I can’t get into heated discussions, and I’ve got to just guard my words more carefully.”

During the interview Steve and Mo’Nique clashed over her claims she was shut out of Hollywood after winning the Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2010, adding that she and her husband/manager, Sidney Hicks, “got labeled as difficult” for pushing back when the producers of Precious asked her to do more Oscar campaigning, while Steve suggested that she should put her integrity aside when there is money on the table.

“I take full responsibility for it, it came out my mouth, so I can’t say that I didn’t say it,” he told People. “But to people that really know me, I have lived my whole life as a man of integrity. So when I was referring to ‘integrity’ in that interview, I was talking about the method in which things were being done, and that is all it was.”

“I never questioned anybody’s principles or anybody’s causes,” he added. “I was merely questioning, for the 50-minute interview, the method that she chose going about doing it — and I regret that looking back at it now, because that was a bad choice of words.”
