Chelsea Peretti Plays Coy About Her Departure From ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’

Chelsea Peretti is subtly divulging that higher ups at Brooklyn Nine-Nine might have had a hand in letting her go from the hit TV show, saying that it wasn’t “fully” her decision.

“It’s hard to get into the weeds of what exactly transpired and how it all shook out,” she said to TVLine, “but it kind of came together to be this timing that presented itself. So I kind of knew that it was going to be happening for a while… [and was] holding on to this feeling of, like, ‘I’m going away from this family’ in my head.”

She continued, “If you talk to anyone in acting — we didn’t even know if the show was going to be renewed or not — you’re always thinking [about] what’s going to happen in your life. It’s the endless twists and turns of show business, and this is kind of how it wound up evolving.”

Chelsea also spoke about Brooklyn Nine-Nine to The Hollywood Reporter when she was asked to clarify:

“That’s the part that I’m deliberately not clarifying because I feel like I can’t get into the exact breakdown [of what happened],” she said to THR. “I’m just a lowly actor out here without much status. Everyone’s like, ‘Hey, do a bunch of interviews.’ And I’m like, ‘All right. I don’t know how to talk about it.’ But I feel like it’s one of those things … you write about Hollywood all the time. No one can ever fully say the whole story of what’s going on. But the gist is it was somewhat mutual. And it was amicable. That’s the best way I can put it.”

Regardless, the cast and crew showed the actress a lot of love on social media during this week’s episode, which revolved around her character’s exit from the police precinct.

We’re going to miss you, Chelsea!
