First Lady Melania Trump is a true loyalist, according to ex-White House staffer Cliff Sims. 

In his White House memoir, Team of Vipers, Cliff reveals insider details about Melania and her relationship with the president. Some of them contradict reports of marital strife that have plagued the couple since the 2016 presidential campaign. 

Cliff, who was on the communications team as a special assistant to Trump until 2018, recalled of election night, “The man who is never at a loss for words was rendered speechless by the verdict of history. And he looked, just for the briefest of moments, vulnerable.”

He continued, “Sensing this was Melania Trump. Melania was never the person outside observers seemed convinced that she was — a reluctant and put-upon spouse who just wanted to escape him. For good or ill, she was in it with him all the way.”

“We’re going to do this together,” Melania told her husband, according to the book, “and you’re going to be a great president.”

Of course, other observers had a different take. In Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury, for example, he claims Melania “was in tears — and not of joy” when Trump won the election in 2016. 

Trump had some opinions about Cliff’s book, which generally depicts his administration in a negative light:

“A low-level staffer that I hardly knew named Cliff Sims wrote yet another boring book based on made up stories and fiction,” Trump tweeted. “He pretended to be an insider when in fact he was nothing more than a gofer. He signed a non-disclosure agreement. He is a mess!”
