Abbi Will Be Dating Women In The Final Season Of ‘Broad City’

In the fifth and final season of Broad City, the show’s co-creator Abbi Jacobson has revealed that her character (also named Abbi) will explore her sexuality. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, co-creator Ilana Glazer confirmed that the show has been queer from the “get go.” In fact, “Queerer than we knew,” she added. “Behind the scenes, in front of the cameras. Everyone who works with us has gotten queerer and queerer in the past six years. I swear to God.”

The Comedy Central sitcom follows two best friends, Abbi and Ilana, as they try to navigate adult life in New York City. Abbi came out as bisexual in real life last year, so she knows the importance of being visible.

“That’s in my book [where Abbi talks about dating a woman], and I wanted to put that in the show,’ Abbi said. “Abbi’s not the fumbling idiot we’re used to seeing, trying to ask someone out. It feels more real.”

Ilana added, “For the whole show, we’ve been figuring out how much different we are than our characters. Now that it’s over, I feel so free and proud to be like, that is us.”
