A Record Breaking Number Of Women Were Sworn Into Congress!

Congress now has more women than ever before! In fact, 24 percent of its members are now female. 

Maine elected its first female governor, and Tennessee sent its first woman to the Senate. There were so many women running that many firsts came in pairs: Two Native American women and two Muslim women were elected to Congress.

Additionally, Rep. Sylvia Garcia of Texas is one of the first Latinas ever elected to Congress from her state.
