Ava DuVernay is building a documentary for Netflix around the life of icon Prince, sources told Variety. And apparently, the project has full cooperation from his estate, which is providing Ava with interviews, archival footage, photos, and archive access.

“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” Ava told Deadline. “The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.”

This wouldn’t be Ava’s first tackle on the history of music, or a musician. The Selma and Queen Sugar director actually made her big-screen debut in 2008 with This Is the Life, which chronicled the alternative hip-hop scene in Los Angeles in the 1990s.

This is gonna be epic.
