Here’s Why Charlamagne Tha God Canceled Kanye’s TimesTalk Interview

Charlamagne Tha God is coming out about his recent last-minute cancellation of the TimesTalk interview he was slated to do with Kanye West about mental health.

At the time, Charlamagne wrote on social: “Normalizing being mentally healthy is a conversation that I really wanted to have with Kanye because he’s been so vocal about his own mental health struggles. Unfortunately I think to have that conversation with him right now would not be productive and a total distraction from the point of the convo which is to eradicate the stigma of mental health especially in the black community.”

Now, appearing on The Late Show, he gave a more eloquent explanation:

“I felt like everyone was bypassing that conversation. Even when he sat down with TMZ and Harvey Levin, he talked about not being on his meds and Harvey just kind of breezed past it. I’m like, ‘Uhh that’s where the period that should’ve been on the sentence,” he explained to Stephen Colbert. “There’s nothing else to talk about after that. Let’s have a conversation about that. Why are you not on your medication? … I think he needed to figure that out.”

He also added that the TimesTalk might have been a distraction, rather than actually conveying an important message.

“For what I’m trying to do which is to elevate the conversation of mental health in the black community and eradicate the stigma around mental health, I just didn’t think it would be a good conversation,” he continued. “It would be a distraction.”
