Julia Roberts Doesn’t Want To Star in Rom-Coms Anymore

Julia Roberts is the quintessential star of Romantic Comedies, but now the Hollywood legend says she is through with the genre “unless we [play] the parents of the people that are rom-com-ing,” she explained to Entertainment Tonight, reiterating that she’s had too much life experience to convincingly star in a rom-com.

But that doesn’t mean she’s through completely

“There came a point in my career where people thought I had turned on romantic comedies, which I love them, I love to be in them, I love to watch them,” she explained. “But sometimes, they just don’t work at a certain point of life experience,” adding, “It’s not about age, it’s just about what people know that you know.”

Her new series on Amazon Prime Video, Homecoming, stars her as a former caseworker at a government facility that helped soldiers transition back to the world as civilians. She reunites with Dermot Mulroney — the two starred in My Best Friend’s Wedding together.

“He just made a meal of this part,” she said of Dermot, who plays her boyfriend in the show. “[And] I think because people think of us together, it allowed us to do more.”
