Mrs. America Contestants Say Its Founder Made Racist Comments

Apparently the founder of the Mrs. America Pageant (not to be confused with the more popular, Miss. America Pageant) made racist comments, telling Mrs. New Jersey Crissy Timpson, who happens to be black, “You people need to stop killing each other,” and “You black women need to stop having babies.”

The pageant is a competition established to honor married women throughout the U.S.

Three other pageant participants allege they also heard pageant founder David Marmel express similar negative stereotypes at a dinner. Page Six reports Crissy said that David, 82, first allegedly made the remarks to her during an Aug. 18 interview with a pageant videographer.

“Well, you people need to stop killing each other,” he said when the two were debating Colin Kaepernick’s silent protest at the NFL.

Gloria Allred called a press conference recently, since she now represents multiple contestants, though she says they’re not seeking money or a lawsuit.
