Rosie O’Donnell revealed this week that Lady Gaga will be playing Fanny Brice on Broadway, a role made famous by Barbra Streisand in the original 1964 production of Funny Girl.

Apparently, Rosie will be playing the role of Fanny’s mother, Rose Brice.

Since 2012, when a planned production of the musical fell through, there has been speculation about the return of Funny Girl coming to Broadway. This would mark the second time Gaga has followed in the footsteps of Barbra, after her starring role in the remake of A Star Is Born.

Rosie O’Donnell just said on stage that Lady Gaga will play Funny Girl on Broadway and she’ll play her mother.
