Jill Soloway’s Dad Came Out As Trans
The creator of Amazon’s Transparent, Jill Soloway, recently had a personal revelation within her own family.
Jill wrote in a New Yorker article this weekend that her dad came out to her as trans. “Are you sitting down?” he asked her. “I’m coming out to you. I’m trans.”
The coming out mirrors the storyline in the very show she created. Her dad’s new name is Carrie London.
She continued, “There was a nice woman at Nordstrom, he said, who had been helping him pick outfits for years. (Nordstrom? Did I remember him going to Nordstrom?).” But, ‘“Even though my brain was trying to jump out of my skull, I knew to listen and be present, to speak with reassuring words: ‘I hope you know that I love you forever, unconditionally.’”
