Queen Elizabeth is allegedly “thrilled” by her newest toy: a fake hand-waving machine. The Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, revealed the funny gift to Robert Hardman in his documentary, Queen of the World. 

“They gave her a stuffed glove on a wooden lever so that you could tweak the end of the lever and this hand went to and fro,” Anne said. “I think they thought it was rather cheeky but Her Majesty was thrilled.”

It’s unclear whether or not she’s actually used it or not, but it is clear that Anne is steering away from shaking hands — fake or otherwise. 

“The theory was that you couldn’t shake hands with everybody, so don’t start. So I kind of stick with that, but I noticed others don’t,” she said in the documentary, adding that she refuses to start shaking hands at public events.
