Colin Kaepernick Shows Up At New York City Girls Club Organization

Colin Kaepernick made a surprise visit to the Lower Eastside-based Girls Club, which combats poverty with careers training and mentoring for young women. No one had any idea he was to show up at the third annual Nike Backpack Giveaway, and when he did, the place exploded with love.

He wore a T-shirt printed with the words, “I Know My Rights,” while he explained to a mostly minority, mostly female crowd that included LES native Rosario Dawson, why he started kneeling during the national anthem in 2016 — to draw attention to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Colin’s new Nike ad has him saying the slogan, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Nike shares have surged nearly 5 percent, adding nearly $6 billion to the company’s market value since then.
