Roseanne Might Have A Spinoff Without Its Star

ABC

Roseanne might be canceled, but apparently ABC executives are trying to figure out whether they can pull its insane amount of viewers toward a new spinoff.

They’re going back to the drawing board on building a new series around actors Laurie Metcalfe, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert and the rest of the Conner family, sources told Entertainment Weekly. Still, Roseanne would benefit financially from a direct continuation of the show that she created.

The characters were conceived by Roseanne and Matt Williams, so the possibility has been raised about creating a show that would work around such obstacles.

“[They] have a pilot project with Tom Werner for ABC, and we’ll continue working together,” co-executive producer Dave Caplan told The Hollywood Reporter. “I know that Tom really regretted the fact that we had such a wonderful writing staff together — a real rare collection of talent — and I know he’d like to continue using it in some fashion if that were possible.”
