Evan Rachel Wood On Her Iconic Role In ‘Westworld’

Evan Rachel Wood’s role as Dolores in Westworld has struck a nerve, and has since become an iconic figure in the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements.

As Refinery 29 puts it, Dolores is a “sexually and emotionally violated AI robot, Dolores has emerged a vengeful villainess, whose newly surfaced sentience moves her to both seek emancipation and rage against her creators and the men who use and abuse her.”

“I went to the Women’s March in Washington and someone had a sign with a photo of Dolores on it that said, ‘I imagined a story where I didn’t have to be the damsel,’” recalled Evan to the website. “That was the moment I realized Dolores was an icon for a revolution.”

“People say Westworld is timely right now, but to us it’s timeless, and I think we feel like people are listening in a different way now,” she said. “To be in a role like her at the moment, especially with my history, seemed almost fated.” Evan has been open about being a victim of sexual violence.
