Lena Waithe received a GLAAD Media Award for her work, and it was nothing less than extraordinary.

Lena spoke of watching Halle Berry’s Oscar acceptance speech: “I saw her Oscar speech and knew I could do anything, so I’m always grateful to you.”

She also called for unity in the LGBTQ community: “We have to support each other, we have to talk to each other, we have to educate each other about our own individual journeys because at the end of the day, we’re all we got. So let’s hold onto that and let’s hold onto each other,” she said, adding, “We work really hard to tell our stories and let’s continue to tell our stories because the more visible we are, the less they can act like we’re invisible.”
