101 Olivia De Havilland Is Suing Ryan Murphy, In An Incredibly Symbolic Lawsuit

The New York Times published an incredible essay about Dame Olivia de Havilland, one of Hollywood’s Golden Age’s last living stars. The actress is suing Ryan Murphy and FX Network over her portrayal by Catherine Zeta-Jones in last year’s docudrama “Feud: Bette and Joan,” about the rivalry between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

At a time where the turn is often sacrificed for dramatic effect in movies like I, Tonya, The Post, Darkest Hour, and other Ryan Murphy productions, Olivia is seeking honesty and integrity.

All she has to do is prove that the show’s producers lied purposefully to their benefit and at her loss (meaning loss of rewards and emotional distress). And she definitely has a case, especially for defamation. She says the show dampers her long-held reputation of being a good person in the industry, given that she is portrayed as gossipy and a flip-floppy friend to Joan Crawford.

Few expect her to win, but the action is nonetheless reverberating as a kind of last stand against the current bricolage approach to facts, says The Times.
