Claire Foy Was Paid Way Less Than Matt Smith For ‘The Crown’

Claire Foy, yes the Queen of England in The Crown, was paid less than her male counterpart for the entire two seasons she played her.

The news was revealed by the show’s own producers at a panel during the INTV Conference in Jerusalem on Tuesday, pointing to Matt Smith’s starring role in Doctor Who, where he played the sci-fi hit’s Eleventh Doctor from 2010 to 2014. Claire was relatively unknown at the time of the show.

“Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen,” producer Suzanna Mackie said. But not before Claire leaves her duties behind, given that a new Queen will reign in the show in its third season.
