Katherine McPhee is joining the cast of Waitress, the hit musical with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. She will step into the lead in April, marking her Broadway debut.

The 2006 runner-up on American Idol also starred in Smash, the NBC show that focused on the backstage drama surrounding the creation of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. She can currently be seen in the CBS drama Scorpion.
