Disgraced comedian Bill Cosby has returned to the stage right before his retrial in a sexual assault case to honor Tony Williams at LaRosa Jazz Club in Philadelphia.

The appearance was the first time he’s been on stage since 2015, and he told stories about his childhood, joking around with the audience then playing drums.

According to the Associated Press, he handed his drumsticks to the son of the bass player, quipping, “I used to be a comedian.”

When asked about his trial by a local reporter, he replied, “No ma’am. I came here tonight to enjoy being with my friends and the musicians and the people who came… That was a lot of fun.”
