We Need To Talk About USA Figure Skater Adam Rippon

Adam Rippon is now the first openly gay athlete to represent the United States at the Winter Olympics, and for good reason too. Not only is he perhaps one of the best skaters we’ve ever seen on ice, he’s also the most entertaining!

Recently, he spoke to the BBC and said that he would turn down a visit to the White House because he isn’t “welcome.”

“I won’t go because I don’t think somebody like me would be welcome there. I know what it’s like to go into a room and feel like you’re not wanted there,” he said. “Given this platform of being an Olympic athlete, I think it’s really important that we stand up for what we believe in, and we speak out against things that we think are wrong and unjust.”

He added, “If I talked to people the way that President Trump talks to people, my mom would kick my ass.”

Out skier Gus Kenworthy also said he’d deny an invite, telling Time magazine: “I have no interest in faking support. I don’t want to go shake his hand.”
