NYC ‘Attempted Terrorist Attack’ On The Subway Injures Three, Including Suspect

New Yorkers woke up to Facebook posts of friends marking themselves safe after an attempted suicide bomber set off an explosion in the New York City subway near Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement the incident was “an attempted terrorist attack.” The Fire Department announced on Twitter that all injuries were non-life threatening — thank God.

The incident happened around 7:30 am underground from 7th to 8th avenues. According to NYPD, the explosion was small and came from a backpack. The suspect was among the injured, and was shot by the NYPD.

The suspect has been identified as Akayed Ullah, 27, from Brooklyn, and is claiming to have done this in the name of ISIS.

De Blasio said, “There are no credible or specific threats against New York City at this time,” and that, “All we know of is one individual, who, thank God, was unsuccessful in his aims.”
