Melissa McCarthy Talks Going Back To School in ‘Life of the Party’

Warner Brothers

Melissa McCarthy’s new movie Life of the Party takes her back to school, while also reuniting her with her Bridesmaids costar Maya Rudolph, who plays her best friend.

“I really like the idea of showing somebody challenging herself and reinventing herself at my age,” Melissa said to Entertainment Weekly. “Because why not?!”

In the film, Melissa plays a 40-something mom who, after a divorce, decides to go back to college — specifically the same university her daughter attends.

“I do always talk about it, like, maybe I’ll go back [to college!]” she says. “Maybe when I’m, like, 92. I’ll just roll into class and confuse everyone, like, ‘Is the professor’s mother?’ Who wouldn’t want to sit in on that class?”
