Royal engagements are usually on the shorter side, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 2018 wedding date is happening faster than usual. And the reason might make you cry.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Harry’s close relationship with his grandfather, Prince Phillip, is why he wants the wedding to happen ASAP. The 96-year-old might not have a long time left, so naturally Harry wants him to be there on his big day.

“He wanted something close to home for the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen,” royal expert Kate Nicholl tells ET. “In fact, one of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly—this is really whirlwind by royal standards—is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding.”
