After Nico Tortorella revealed he was in a polyamorous relationship last year with girlfriend Bethany Meyers (who identifies as a lesbian while Nico identifies as bisexual), tensions have been high with her family.

“Honestly, it’s kind of a sensitive topic right this second,” he told People at the World Wide Orphans Gala on Monday. “Because of all the attention that the relationship has gotten recently, we are coming up to the holiday season and because of certain things that were said, Bethany and I are not necessarily, completely welcome in her family celebrations this year.”

Last summer, the actor opened up to The Advocate in their cover story, revealing that they’ve been in love for nearly a decade and that they are open bringing other people into their relationship.
