Worst Mass Shooting in American History: 50 Dead, 400 Injured in Las Vegas

On Sunday night, a maniac fired bullets from a machine gun at an outdoor country music festival in Las Vegas, killing around 50 people (so far) and inuring over 400 others!

Police are calling it the worst mass shooting in modern American history.

The killer, Stephen Paddock, open fired from his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay. The concert was held just outside the hotel, and according to a video during singer Jason Aldean’s performance, the music was forced to stop and screams were overheard: “Get down!” and “Stay down!”

News reports say several SWAT teams were sent to Mandalay Bay around 10:08 pm, and officers were overheard on police radio being pinned down by gunfire.

64-year-old Stephen Paddock was identified by police after he killed himself, and authorities were later looking for a companion of his name Mirlou Danley — supposedly they’ve located her already.

Eric Paddock’s, Stephen’s brother who lives in Florida, told the police: “We are completely dumbfounded. We can’t understand what happened.”

“We heard what sounded like firecrackers going off. Then all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a machine gun. People started screaming that they were hit… When we started running out there were probably a couple hundred

on the ground,” witness Meghan Kearney told MSNBC. “People kept dropping and dropping… People were getting shot one foot away from us. People were trying to save their friends. There were gunshots everywhere. Helping them would’ve meant that we got shot, too.”

Several weapons were found inside Paddock’s hotel room. Police say it’s unclear whether Stephen checked into the Mandalay Bay, and whether he’d specifically requested a room on a high floor.

It’s believed at this point the shooting is unrelated to international terrorist groups like ISIS.

Marilou Danley, who was Stephen’s roommate in their Mesquite, Nevada home, was captured by police. They also found two vehicles related to the investigation: a Hyndai Tucson and a Chrysler Pacifica Touring.
