Rapper Macklemore Has Something to Say About Australia’s Marriage Equality Vote

Macklemore is weighing in the debate happening in Australia about same-sex marriage, and is vowing to sing his equality anthem “Same Love” during a weekend rugby final.

He is headlining the pre-game entertainment in Sydney, Australia this weekend at the National Rugby League Grand Final — and what better place to convince straight people to vote for same-sex marriage than a sports game?

Australia has two months to mail in ballots voting for or against marriage equality in the country. This week, Macklemore told Los Angeles Radio KPWR he wasn’t going to change his song list for the event.

“It’s interesting actually because I’m playing ‘Same Love’ and they’re going through right now trying to legalize same-sex marriage in Australia, so I’m getting a lot of tweets from angry, old white dudes in Australia,” he said. “I think there was a petition today to ban me from playing. I’m gonna go harder.”
